There are a whole host of simple to use creative web tools, where you can add your own text/image to a template to create an arresting image. This may seem trivial, but making something memorable is an essential part of the learning process. You can also turn this around and give students the task to use them, for example to create a newspaper clipping summarising the key elements of a piece of learning. So in tribute to Tom Kuhlman, who brought most of these to my attention:
redkid.net do a host of sign generators, including a road (or freeway) sign generator.
fodey allows you to create a newspaper cutting from some text.
bighugelabs have a variety of templates, which include a motivational poster, popart poster and a "Hockneyiser".
Also don't forget the bus slogan generator I blogged about some time ago, and the dynamic Einstein picture.
